| It's all hotting up on the Home Zone front in the Methleys. Since the neighbourhood was chosen as one of the nine pilot neighbourhoods in the autumn of 1999, Methleys Neighbourhood Action has been working closely with officers at Leeds City Council to develop concrete plans.
At the turn of the year 2000, the Council conducted a formal consultation - asking a whole series of questions to all residents through a questionnaire. The results showed overwhelming support for the development of a Home Zone with 79% of respondents agreeing and only 13% opposed.
Of course there was a lot of heartache over the detail of the final plans, but construction took place in the summer of 2001 and all of a sudden the Methleys is a Home Zone - only eight years after starting to try and improve the streets of the neighbourhood.
May Day 2002 was the official launch date chosen - giving enough time for the eighteen new trees to blossom and bud and for the plants in the new shrubberies to establish themselves.
